Introduction

Brief History

The history of our Chemistry Department began in December 2012, when University of Poonch was established by the government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Muhammad Irshad, the pioneer Coordinator, started the Master degree program with sixty students and three faculty members (Dr. Shabnam Shahida, Dr. Syed Mubashir sabir & Miss sadia Ilyas). Ever since it was established the Department has carried out the tradition of excellence in maintaining high-quality teaching and in pursuing dynamic research programs. In October 2013, BS and in December 2013 M.Phil. and in 2021 Ph.D. programs were launched.

Teaching & Research

In the quest of academic excellence, the Department is committed to providing the best quality and up-to-date education for our students. At present, the Department has 17 academic staff members and three lab attendants. Our faculty members research interests cover a broad range of topics, which include organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, natural product chemistry, medicinal chemistry, Nano chemistry, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, protein and enzyme chemistry.
The Department has one undergraduate and one advanced research lab equipped with High-Tech instruments. Our researchers also have access to Hi-Tech Lab established in main campus.
