Introduction

Members of society practicing religion wish to gain an in-depth understanding of religion. In Azad Jammu & Kashmir society intends to learn about Islamic issues. At present, there is no platform within state to help them to learn Islam within a modern framework. Degree programs in Islamic Studies at University of the Poonch, Rawalakot (UPR) is structured to impart world-class education in this regard. The department offers the study of Islam in a religious and intellectual tradition. The approach also encapsulates the study of Muslim civilization in its various dimensions. The department provides a strong ground in various sub-disciplines of classical and modern Islamic learning. The programs in the department focus modern and classical research methodologies in the field of Islamic and religious studies at higher level. Department of Islamic Studies was established in January 2014 with the primary objective to provide an Islamic response to the intellectual and cultural challenges of the modern world and to promote the concept of Inter-faith and inter-civilization. The department aims to produce theological scholars to the society of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Two degree programs, M.Phil. (2 Years), M.A (02 Years) and BS (4 Years) are offered in the department.
