Introduction

Education is the single most important factor for the development and maintenance of human civilization and selection of an institution for education is the most critical milestone in a students academic life. As we begin a new academic year, I would like to welcome our incoming students, escalate the existing 260 enrolled students and also encourage prospective students to consider joining us next year. This is an exciting time to be at the Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences (FBAS) and the University of Poonch, Rawalakot Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences has recently been established in March 2013. Based on the diversity and interdisciplinary relation in science disciplines, the Faculty offers a wide range of degree programmes at graduate and post graduate levels. Presently we are offering BS (4 Years) and M.Sc. (2 Years) degree programmes in the departments of Computer and Information Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The FBAS at the University of Poonch is in the developmental stage and we are planning to add more disciplines and convert the existing departments into Institutes in accordance with the demand of the national and international standards. Our priority is to offer courses those who can fulfil the growing demands of energy, food, industrial and economic development, as well as establishing a competitive environment in the highly globalized world.
